Bearing Replacement

In the Facilities department I oversee a broad range of projects and repairs. I enjoy the variety and am constantly learning new things as well as facing new challenges. Recently I swapped a bearing for the first time. It was for one of the heaters in our Student Center. The bearing was way overdue and a beast to wrestle free. It took way longer than it should have, several hours in fact. I ended up cutting the collar that held it in place (check out the photos). I almost gave up more times than I care to admit, in the end I persisted and was victorious!

A Lesson For A Lifetime

Often, I feel out of my depth in ministry and in life, then I’m reminded that I was never intended to do this on my own. My strength will always be inadequate. I am increasingly aware of my need to rely on the Holy Spirit for strength, wisdom and grace in order to live in obedience. It’s easy to get to a place of fear or stress and feeling overwhelmed. Then it’s like God whispers to my heart “my yoke is easy and my burden is light” and reminds me if it feels like too much then the source of my strength is probably me and not Him.

“For my yoke is easy and my burden is light…”
Matthew 11:30

There is a confidence I have when I’m trusting God for the way forward. I can choose to be stressed and afraid or I can look to Jesus. When I do, I am filled with peace, joy and motivation for what is to come.

If you’ve read my letters over the years this probably sounds familiar, some lessons I have to learn over and over. This is one I think I will be learning all my life.
