In a few days, I will be having surgery. A few weeks ago an MRI showed two issues in my hip originally masked by the extreme back pain I experienced over the past few years. Last year’s back surgery brought some immediate relief. However, as I have continued to have pain in my left hip, my physical therapist became suspicious in April after 12 months of PT. He recommended further follow-up with an orthopedic doctor.
While laying in the MRI machine, I asked God to let the doctor see clearly any issues that needed to be addressed. As hard as the news was to hear, I was grateful to be aware before it became an emergency. I have had a couple of weeks to prepare; something I did not have with my last operation.
The surgeon will be repairing a full labrum tear along with reshaping a bone to address an impingement. Wednesday, September 21st the surgery will take place. Recovery will be long. I’ve been told to expect 6-9months for full recovery. The first six weeks will be very limiting, and then I will ease back into duties as I am able. While I recover, I will support my department from home. However my priority will be rest, healing, and strengthening through physical therapy.
Much to my disappointment, I have had to put all travel plans on hold for the next few months. Ministry will look different during my recovery. I am hopeful it is unto a stronger, more effective future in missions.
Would you be praying for my recovery?
- Wisdom for the doctors to find and repair the problems.
- Smooth healing and recovery.
- Encouragement and grace as I am faced with limitations and needing to be very dependent on others for a season.
These times can feel discouraging – I find these weeks and months can have low points.
While I am not looking forward to these procedures, I am finding comfort in the Lord’s leading and His care for me. While many of my physical needs can be met by the YWAM community, I still need your love and prayers.
