Reflecting on 2020
Though fewer schools ran than originally planned, still six training programs were able to run. Students from other nations were able to attend even though travel around the globe slowed down. By the end of last year, things had opened up enough that teams were sent both to the USA as well as nations in South and Central America! I am grateful to be a part of what God is doing across the earth through YWAM Kansas City, our partner ministries and many of you in the midst of a freakish year.
Highs and Lows
Low
One area of difficulty for me personally has been chronic back pain ranging from mild to severe and even at times debilitating. I have had to wrestle being discouraged as the pain has taken its toll in a number of areas. I am thankful to be surrounded by people who are eager to help me in times of need, and I am learning how to have patience in the healing process.
High
The highlight of 2020 was enjoying the Lord’s company on a 14-mile solo hike up Pikes Peak in Colorado. It was extremely challenging, but more than that, it was a life-giving adventure where God displayed His nearness and abundant provision to me.
Ministry
As a property management team, our department has had one of the most productive years in a number of areas. Due to the healthy dynamics of our team and aspects of our campus being shut down, we were able to catch up on a number of tasks and do some extra projects since essential work was still happening. Our team was strengthened in this time and others were able to help when necessary. I have had opportunities to grow in leading and discipling as I have transitioned into a leadership role on my team over the past year or so. As we serve together, we challenge and grow one another in our unique skills, strengths, and shortcomings. It makes me think of Proverbs 27:17,“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

I love this photo of our community working together.
Looking Forward to 2021
Kicking off 2021, I committed to taking bold steps rather than do less just because the world looks different. I am strategizing how to move forward in greater boldness and intentionality. At YWAM KC, we want to give every person the opportunity to know the truth of the gospel. We are currently running two training schools with more planned throughout the year.
I have seen the Lord’s faithfulness in my own life, and I want the misunderstandings of God to be shattered in people’s minds because they encounter the reality and beauty of who He is. What fuels me and everything we do here is to Know God and make Him Known.
Last year, we celebrated 60 years as YWAM. Our co-founder, Darlene Cunningham, said it best when she said,“We rejoice as we reflect on God’s past faithfulness. But we don’t stop there! We look forward with great anticipation for all that He still has in His heart to do through Youth With A Mission…”
